As quoted in the Bridal section in Newsday on September 23, 2001
in the article titled “It’s all in the Timing”.
“First things first, though. The biggest time-consumer will be the centerpiece of the wedding." Patti of Beautiful Beginnings
Cosmetics in Smithtown says you can’t get chintzy on the bride. The entire mood of the wedding may depend on how she looks and how she feels about the way she looks.
Brides should start at least six hours before the ceremony, and that includes a minimum of an hour and a half for the hair alone, provided the stylist is making a house call. Otherwise, she should tack on time to travel to and from the beauty parlor.
With fewer preparations, the joke is that the groom and groomsmen can dress 20 minutes before the ceremony, “though they might want to leave time that morning to tear off a game of golf”, Patti adds with a laugh.
For the women in the bridal party, it ordinarily takes three hours to apply makeup. Having a dry run with the makeup artist long before the wedding day can cut 15 minutes off each makeup job, Patti says. “That way we
get down in advance the correct colors and coordinate the coloring with the person’s hair and skin color and what bridesmaids are wearing.”
